Connie's beautiful Grand Concert Harp is called a "VENUS Harp". This is the trade name for a line of premium quality pedal harps manufactured by a harp company in Chicago Illinois called W&W Musical Instrument Company. This company was started in 1969 by Walter Krasicki Sr., an expert in wood craftsmanship. He believed harps should be manufactured with true old world craftsmanship, so he started his new harp line using the handcrafted method of pedal harp making. Since these harps are hand-crafted with extensive hand-carving, each finished harp is unique. Every harp maker who works at W&W Musical Instrument Company is a European Craftsmen with expertise in customized woodworking.
Only the best materials available are used in the production of the VENUS Harps. Hard maple is used for the column, base, and back of the harp while Sitka spruce is used for the soundboard and Beech wood for the center strips. The Grand Concert harp has 47 strings made of natural gut for the middle octaves, stainless steel for the lower bass, and nylon for the uppermost octaves.
The strings of a Grand Concert harp exert over 2000 pounds of pressure on the neck and soundboard. Therefore, each of these harps have a curved neck for strength and stability.
Connie's Grand Concert harp model is the cascading carved roses known as the "Classic". It also has beautiful roses winding up from the base of the harp column and ornate designs on the base and feet. Connie's harp has a unique two-toned finish of Natural wood contrasted with a deep French Mahogony. The soundboard has an ornate gold design with highlights of hand-burnished French Mahogony. The soundboard is extended for a full, rich sound. Connie's harp took around 10 months to be built since it was a 'special order' harp. The wait was well worth it as VENUS harps exemplify excellence in harp manufacturing.
